You know the feeling,.
You’re on vacation and left your hotel room early in the morning to cease the day of possibilities. After a while, you’re ready to head back to your room and are greeted to a spotless bed of perfection that was just awaiting your arrival.

There are countless of ways to make a bed. These are just 3 of my go-to styles that are quick, easy yet very stately. But before we get into styling, let’s cover the basics:
THE FOUNDATION
In order to replicate any of these styles in your bedroom to the fullest, you will need the following: a bed frame, a mattress, a mattress cover/protector, sheets, pillows, a duvet, a duvet cover, accent pillows and a couple quilts or throw blankets.
Extra Tips: A mattress cover/protector atop of a supportive mattress is non-negotiable. In my opinion, Saavta makes the best mattresses so their add-ons are worth a look. Layering is the secret to a comfy bed. If you’re in need of anything, look for the coziest options you can find based on the reviews and your budget. I highly recommend you do not skip this step, your future self will thank you.
The proper way to make a bed usually starts with a fitted sheet on top of the mattress cover. Then, a flat sheet is spread across upside down with all corners loose with excess material hanging at all three sides. The flat sheet should fold over at the head of the bed. After this, you focus on tucking in the excess, best starting at the feet of the bed. For the sides, we will be making hospital corners. You want to use one hand to press the excess material against the side of the mattress, while allowing the excess to create a fold for you to tuck underneath. The goal is to get this as tight, flat and smooth as possible. It’s easier to physically show you this step, so here’s a great video that showcases what I mean.
A common style that is popular in Europe and within the hotel industry. The foundation is topped with an optional blanket or quilt with the flat sheet folded over. The duvet is then dressed at the foot of the bed, folded. The pillows are accessorized with accent pillows that tie in the overall color scheme. Light colors are a safe way to play.
This is actually a more historic way of making a bed that you don’t see too often these days. It requires a blanket or quilt long enough. You’d fold over the blanket towards the foot of the bed to position the pillow(s) well. Then, you’d take that blanket and fold it over the pillows towards the head of the bed, flattening and smoothing out any wrinkles. You can top with an additional duvet as needed and accent pillows.
This is the bed that says, just slide right in – perfect after a long day. The flat sheet is folded at least half way down the mattress. The head is dressed with pillows and accents. But the duvet at the foot of the bed is positioned at an angle that opens towards the body, as if it is inviting you to slide right in.
