If your space is feeling a bit dull, stagnant or even outdated and you are looking to breathe new life into your space, then you are in the right place. Bringing new energy into your space doesn’t always require a significant financial investment. Here are some easy and creative ways to refresh your space, revitalizing your living environment without breaking the bank:
REARRANGE FURNITURE
One of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to change the look and energy of a room is to rearrange the furniture. Unleash your creativity by experimenting with different layouts to create a fresh perspective.
DECLUTTER
Are you holding on to a lot of… stuff? There is always something to part with. A clutter-free space feels more energizing and calming. Go through your belongings and declutter by getting rid of items you no longer need. Consider donating, selling, or recycling them.
GREENERY
Incorporating indoor plants is an affordable way to add life and energy to your space. I truly believe there is a plant for everyone, as they can range in their level of care from bare minimum to overly demanding. They not only look great but also improve air quality and provide a connection to nature. Studies have shown that people feel more happy around plants.
LIGHTING
Lighting can be used to create an ambiance, enhance a mood, highlight, focus, brighten up or dim down and so much more. Updating your lighting can have a big impact. Swap out old light fixtures or add floor and table lamps to create different lighting moods for different purposes. Incorporating fire through the use of candles is an easy way to play with lighting.
CREATE A FEATURE WALL
A fresh coat of paint can work wonders as color is such a powerful tool that can alter perception, dramatize and so much more. Consider painting one accent wall in a bold or contrasting color to add a pop of energy to your room without repainting the whole space. A feature wall could also be dramatized through the use of wallpaper or art. Think of this wall as a purposeful display of creativity that compliments and adds to the space in an interesting way.
UPDATE ACCESSORIES
Changing your throw pillows, curtains, and other soft furnishings is a budget-friendly way to introduce new colors and patterns into your space. What other colorways could you incorporate into your space?
DIY ARTWORK
Create your own artwork or wall decor. This is something I did with my son when he was two years old and the end result looks so good, everyone assumes it was purchased. We repurposed an old piece of art, becoming a sentimental item for me. You don’t have to be an artist; simple, abstract paintings or framed prints from free online sources can transform your walls.
SHELVING
Rearrange bookshelves or display units with a mix of decorative items, books, and personal items to create an eye-catching display. There is truly an art to this, but with patience, practice and some studying, the end result may rival professionalism.
TEXTILE UPDATE
Invest in new area rugs or tablecloths to freshen up your space and perspective of it. Textiles can add warmth, color, and texture to the space making it feel new.
CANDLES AND SCENTS
The ways in which we experience spaces hit all of our senses at once, including odors. Experiencing scented candles or essential oils can influence the atmosphere of a room. Bring in scents that make you feel relaxed, energized, or inspired.
MIRRORS
Incorporating a mirror is a powerful tool that can play with your perception. Mirrors can make spaces look larger and reflect light. Position them strategically to brighten up dark corners or create the illusion of more space.
HARDWARE
The devil is in the details, my love. Upgrade those cabinet knobs, drawer pulls, or door handles for a quick and affordable change in your kitchen or bathroom. This is a small but effective way to incorporate change while making a statement.
ENERGY CLEANSE
This is something I love to do after large gatherings and on a quarterly basis. Consider energy-cleansing rituals like smudging with California White Sage or palo santo to clear negative energy and bring in positivity.
Before I send you off on your revamping journey, remember that small changes can make a big difference, and you don’t have to do everything at once. Start with one or two of these budget-friendly ideas and see how your space transforms.
